Steileen Says: Highs and Lows [PHOTOS]
One of my favorite things to do is mixing high-end with low-end pieces. Of course, as with all things, it must be done the right way. This is a concept that has been very on trend lately. This look is extremely popular, among fashionistas who make a great outfit out of a buck. More and more celebrities are spotted mixing a combination of both into their wardrobe.
I’ve always been a , what I like to call, “see no brand shopper.” By this, I mean that if I like something I must get it; whether it be Balenciaga shoes or a $3 top from the thrift store. When shopping, you must first look at a) whether you like it or not b) does it fit your style? c) Does it have potential to fit your style? To me C has always been the most important. It seems obvious that everyone would like to wear high-end clothing all the time. But it is not always the case and expensive does not always equate to great looking. Learning how to incorporate the lower-end pieces with the higher-end pieces has to do with understaning your personal style. Once you learn what that is you will be more confident in choosing pieces that are fitting to you.
Understanding the functionality of clothing allows you to broaden your horizons when shopping. Don’t pull out the stiff arm just because something does not cost as much as you are used to purchasing it for. Being a true fashionista consists of finding the hidden treasures; whether it be shoes, top, trousers, bag, or even accessories, I already start planning an outfit in my head. Most of my low-end purchases are matched up with one of my high-end purchases. There is nothing wrong with wearing a H&M dress with your Loubies. There is also nothing wrong with wearing an outfit consisting of only low-end pieces. As I mentioned above, you have to look at the POTENTIAL of clothing and see how YOU can work with it.
